Channa punctatus were exposed to various test concentrations of SSP for 96 hours along with the control utilizing 10 animals. Blood glucose decreased in all the test concentrations of SSP. Plasma protein and total plasma cholesterol decreased significantly. The hypoglycaemic response may be a result of greater energy requirement with inadequate supply of energy source due to increased metabolic activities. The decrease in protein level of Channa punctatus exposed to single super phosphate might be due to excretion of proteins by kidney resulting from kidney disorder (albuminuria) or impaired protein synthesis due to liver disorder. A decreased level of cholesterol in Channa punctatus might be due to increase breakdown of cholesterol into free fatty acids.
