During routine survey for eriophyoid mites from the vegetation belts of Northern Districts of West Bengal, a new plant parasitic mite species, Tetra dalbergicola N. sp. of the subfamily Phyllocoptinae of the family Eriophyidae was found along the ventral surface of leaves of a well-known timber yielding plant Dalbergia sissoo Roxb (Papilionaceae). Taxonomic diagnosis of this species was done thoroughly. A key to the Indian species of the genus Tetra is provided in this article. The relationship of the parasitic mite with its host plant has been described here. The mite causes damages to this plant by sucking cell sap from the leaf veins. It produces leaf rusting and discoloration of young leaves as visible damage symptoms of this plant. To save the plant from the harmful effects produced by this tiny creature and for proper control measure, taxonomic study of this mite is very much essential.
