Ichthyofaunal diversity in some of the major ponds of district Vaishali (Bihar)

Abstract:

Fresh water ponds (POKHARS) plays a significant role in human life, it also have a major impact in determination of nutritive and health condition of human beings because human being considered as fish producing and consuming unit. Fishes were catched and stacked up with the help with nets by local fishermen from the selected ponds of Vaishali district. At the start fishes were recognized by their common & local names. Identification by scientific method were done at research facility. During the investigations a sum of 30 species of fishes from 9 order 12 family were identified. Crihnus mrigala, Labeo rohita, Mystus tengara, Labeo calbasu, Labeo gonius, Channa punctatus were determine to be predominant species of fish.
